Herrera got things going in the 10th minute when he scored his fourth goal of the season on a beautiful assist by MacDonald. Webb (0-2-1, 0-2-1 HVMAC) had several chances to tie the score, but were unable to convert, and when MacDonald converted a Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY/Salesian) feed off a corner kick in the 21st minute, Mount Saint Vincent began to roll. Dotoratos scored his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute to make it 3-0, and Herrera closed out the first half with his second goal of the game four minutes later.
Up 4-0 after 45 minutes, Mount Saint Vincent was put on their heels a bit to open the second half as Webb’s Josh Rothman (Lincroft, NJ/Marine Academy) scored to make it 4-1, but the game would not get any closer, thanks to Herrera and MacDonald. MacDonald scored his second of the game in the 56th minute off a Herrera feed to make it 5-1, and Herrera scored twice in a four-minute span to increase the lead to six. Dotoratos struck again in the 89th minute for the final score.
Mount Saint Vincent enjoyed its best shooting game of the season on Wednesday, scoring the eight goals on 30 shots, while allowing only 14 shots. Webb goalies Brendan Carr (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford HS) and Cullen Sarles (Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) turned in an outstanding performance, combining to make 18 saves in a losing effort. Dolphin goalie Martino Cecere (Rye Brook, NY/Blind Brook HS) was equal to the task, stopping 11 out of 12 shots he faced.
The win sets up an interesting scenario for the Mount as the Dolphins next play on Saturday, Sept. 30 when they travel to face the Culinary Institute of America at 1:00 p.m. A win earns the Mount their second straight HVMAC Regular Season Championship, and the #1 seed in the Conference’s playoffs in October. A loss, drops the Mount to the #3 seed and gives Culinary its first-ever HVMAC Title.
