Dedvukaj named Skyline Conference/HVWAC Rookie of the Week for Women’s Volleyball
Escobar named HVWAC Runner of the Week for Cross Country; Alessi/Curran earn Honor Roll for Women’s Soccer
9/27/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent freshman Women’s Volleyball standout Michelle Dedvujak (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine) was named Rookie of the Week by both the Skyline Conference and Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) this week after an incredible week of play in which she led the Mount to a 2-1 record with wins over the College of New Rochelle and Medgar Evers and a loss to St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn). During the stretch, Dedvujak averaged 2.33 kills and 2.33 digs per game, and also enjoyed a .475 attack percentage. Dedvujak’s biggest match came against CNR on Wednesday when the outside hitter registered 12 kills (against only one error), a .579 attack percentage, and seven digs as the Mount swept the Blue Angels, 3-0. For the 2006 season, Dedvujak is among the team leaders in kills per game (1.83), attack percentage (.307), service aces (13), and digs (2.34).

This award was Dedvujak’s first-ever Skyline Conference honor, and the second straight week she has earned Rookie of the Week from the HVWAC.

Mount Saint Vincent is currently 6-3 overall after Monday’s stunning 3-1 win over defending Skyline Conference runner-up USMMA-Kings Point in which Dedvujak had a colossal match with 14 kills, a .500 attack percentage, and 10 digs.

Also earning Conference recognition this week is senior Teresa Escobar (Highland Falls, NY/O’Neill HS), a member of the Mount Saint Vincent Cross Country team. At the team’s first race of the year – the Stevens Institute of Technology Invitational last Friday – Escobar, who was competing in her first career race, earned first place honors in the 6k race and led the Dolphins to a third place finish. For her efforts, Escobar was named HVWAC Runner of the Week.

Two Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer players were named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll as junior goalie Alexis Alessi (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside HS) and freshman forward Kelly Curran (Hopatong, NJ/Jefferson Township HS) had outstanding weeks of play. Alessi stopped 11 shots as Mount Saint Vincent downed Mount Saint Mary, 3-0 last Wednesday night, a game in which Curran scored the winning goal. The Dolphins are currently 3-0 heading into today’s home game against Medgar Evers, and Alessi has yet to allow a goal this season.
