Martinez named HVWAC Player of the Week for Women’s

Junior opens season averaging 2.55 kills and 1.82 blocks
per game as Dolphins finish week 1-2
9/13/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent
junior Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St.
Catherine) was named the Hudson Valley Women’s
Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Player of the Week this week
after an outstanding stretch of play during which the Mount
finished 1-2. Martinez averaged 2.55 kills and 1.82 blocks
per game during the stretch as the Mount downed the College
of Staten Island on Sept. 7 to open the season, but was
lost both ends of a tri-meet to Mount Saint Mary and Lehman
two days later.
Against CSI, Martinez had 10 kills, a .762 attack percentage, and two solo blocks as the Dolphins won their 10th straight HVWAC regular season contest. Her solid start to 2006 was followed up by an incredible stretch two days later when she combined for 18 kills, 18 solo blocks, and a .417 attack percentage in two matches.
For the 2006 season, Martinez is currently the Mount’s leader in kills, blocks, and attack percentage.
After a 3-0 win over Cooper Union on Monday night, the Mount is currently 2-2 overall and 2-0 in HVWAC play.
