Women's Volleyball dominates CSI in 'Battle of the Dolphins' to open season 1-0
Martinez nets nine kills, Predergast has career night as the Mount sweeps their way to HVWAC win
9/7/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) - Junior Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine) slammed home a match-high 10 kills and senior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS) had a career-high nine service aces as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team swept the College of Staten Island, 3-0 on Thursday night to open the season 1-0 overall, and 1-0 in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play. During the "Battle of the Dolphins," the Mount left little doubt from the opening game, never allowing the CSI Dolphins (0-1, 0-1 HVWAC) to gain more than nine points during a single stanza. Mount Saint Vincent won the opening game, 30-8 before winning the next two, 30-7 and 30-9, respectively.

Martinez and Predergast - both HVWAC All-Conference picks during the 2005 season in which Mount Saint Vincent won the Conference's regular season championship - formed a vicious one-two punch with Martinez converting 13 attacking attempts into 10 kills, while Predergast's service efforts were virtually unreturnable. Junior Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers HS) also had a big night with five kills on seven attempts and six service aces, while freshman Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes) had a match-high 10 assists during her collegiate debut.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they travel to Mount Saint Mary for a tri-meet. The Dolphins open play against the host Knights at 1:00 p.m. for a Skyline Conference contest and will face local rival Lehman College later that day. The Mount returns home on Monday, Sept. 11 for an HVWAC match against Cooper Union.
