8/23/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics Cathy Ingram has announced the hiring of Matt Hisler as Head Men’s Soccer Coach. Hisler, a 2000 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan, spent the last four seasons as an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Methodist College, a Division III member of the USA South Conference. Former Methodist College Assistant Coach Matt Hisler is the new Head Men's Soccer Coach at Mount Saint Vincent. A former stand-out at Division III powerhouse Virginia Wesleyan, Hisler brings more than a decade of coaching experience to the Mount. The defending HVMAC Regular Season Champions begin the 2006 season on Sept. 6 when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point.

“Matt Hisler is a tremendous addition to the Mount Saint Vincent Athletics Department who brings to the Mount an impressive coaching background, and an unbridled passion for soccer. He has enjoyed tremendous success at every stop of his coaching career, and I think he is ready for the challenge of being a Head Coach at the College level,” said Ingram.

At Methodist, Hisler was involved in all facets of the program, including recruiting, game preparation and coaching, fundraising, and community service activities for a Monarch program that enjoyed a 39-32-7 record during his time as an Assistant. While coaching at Methodist, Hisler also served as the Head Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach at the Fayetteville Christian School, and led the team to the program’s first two state tournament appearances in its history and a #9 ranking in North Carolina during the 2006 season. At Fayetteville Christian, Hisler earned EPIC Girls’ Varsity Coach of the Year honors in 2003. He is also the International Program Head Coach of the United Soccer Academy based out of Delray, Florida that has toured England, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Italy.

Hisler’s coaching background includes stops at the Chesapeake Select Soccer Club, Oscar Smith High School, and stints as a High School Assistant Coach during his playing days at Virginia Wesleyan. Hisler spent four years as a member of the powerhouse Marlin team that was ranked in the nation’s top-20 each year and finished the 1994 season ranked #2 in the country. His certifications include a National B License from the USSF, and an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.

In taking his first head coaching position at the College level, Hisler said he believes that Mount Saint Vincent brings with it potential to be one of the premier teams in the Skyline Conference and continue to be a power in the HVMAC.

“I am thrilled to begin my career as a College Head Coach at Mount Saint Vincent,” Hisler said. “This is a very special place that has enjoyed much success in Men’s Soccer over the last two years, and I believe we can build upon the success and take it even further in a very short amount of time. I think there is a very good talent base in place already, but more importantly, I think this is a school that a lot of top High School seniors will want to attend, and the recruiting possibilities are endless at the Mount. Obviously it’s a challenge taking over this position just before the season, but I know I am up for this challenge and so is the team. The commitment here is fantastic from the administration and the athletes, and I believe we are going to be successful from the beginning.”

Mount Saint Vincent opens the 2006 season with a trip to USMMA-Kings Point on Sept. 6.
