Dolphins open 2006 season with five straight home matches, host defending HVWAC Champion Sarah Lawrence on Sept. 29
8/14/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – The 2005 tennis season marked a renaissance of sorts for Mount Saint Vincent as the Mount’s first season back from a one-year hiatus proved to be nothing short of successful. The Dolphins finished the 2005 season with a 5-7 overall record that included their first Skyline Conference win in four years, and a third place regular season and playoff finish in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC).

The 2006 season will be a challenge once again for Head Coach Frank Fanning and the Dolphins as the Mount will once again face the very best both conferences have to offer. However, with five consecutive home matches to begin the 2006 season, Mount Saint Vincent has a lot to look forward to as the program continues to build. Beginning with their home opener on Sept. 9 against St. Joseph’s  (LI), the Mount will literally spend the entire month of September in Riverdale, hosting Pratt Institute, Stevens, Cooper Union, and defending HVWAC Champion Sarah Lawrence on Sept. 29.

Despite the slew of matches at home, the Mount will encounter a road trip of equal proportions when they compete in five consecutive road matches during the first two weeks of October. The swing will be highlighted by an encounter with defending Skyline Conference champion, Manhattanville, Oct. 9. After the road trip, Mount Saint Vincent returns home for their final two home matches of 2006 when they welcome Mount Saint Mary on Sunday, Oct. 15 and Yeshiva a week later.

The playoffs begin on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at the Skyline Conference semifinals with the championship round coming three days later. The HVWAC Championships will take place on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
