Dolphins to play six home games during defense of HVWAC Tournament Championship
8/14/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – After a 10-7 2005 season that included the program’s first ever Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament Championship, Head Coach Tony Elmore and the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Soccer team will play an ambitious schedule during the 2006 campaign that includes home games against four of their five HVWAC opponents, and six home matches overall. After opening the 2006 campaign with five straight contests on the road, the Mount will enjoy a stretch where six out of eight games will be at home over a three-week span, a stretch that could very well determine their post-season fortunes this season.

The season-opening stretch of away games for Mount Saint Vincent begins with a scrimmage at Purchase College onSaturday, Aug. 26, that will be followed up with a match at the County College of Morris five days later. After the Mount’s regular season opener at St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday, Sept. 7, the Dolphins travel to Maritime College and Mount Saint Mary on Sept. 7 and 13, respectively, before coming home for the first time on Monday, Sept. 25 when they host HVWAC foe CCNY at 4:00 p.m. Two days later, the Mount will host Medgar Evers at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to two straight crucial Skyline Conference games on Sept. 30 and Oct. 4. During those dates, the Dolphins will face both Skyline Conference Championship Game participants from the 2005 season when they meet Manhattanville on Sept. 30 at noon, and travel to Stevens on Oct. 4 at 4:00 p.m.

After facing Stevens and Manhattanville, the Mount returns home for four straight games, highlighted by a rematch of the 2005 HVWAC Championship Game on Monday, Oct. 16 when Mount Saint Vincent hosts the College of Staten Island at 4:00 p.m. Three days later, the Dolphins welcome the College of Saint Elizabeth at 4:00 p.m. for their final home game of the 2006 regular season. From there, the Mount concludes the 2006 regular season with three straight away games.

The 2006 post-season begins on Tuesday, Oct. 31 with the opening round of the HVWAC playoffs. The Skyline Conference semifinals take place the next day, with the HVWAC semifinals taking place on Thursday, Nov. 2. Should the Mount advance to either the Skyline Conference or HVWAC Championship Game, the match will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Mount Saint Vincent finished the 2005 season with a 10-7 record, a mark that helped Coach Elmore earn Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors. With more than a dozen returnees, including Skyline Conference All-Conference selections Katherine Gentsch and Cynthia Osorio, and an outstanding recruiting class, the Mount is expected to be in the thick of things for both Conferences once again.
