5/11/2007 - The final weekend of action for the 2007 HVWAC Softball season saw some of the most exciting softball of the season as the Semifinals and Championship Game saw one lop-sided score and two games that saw a total of five runs scored. When the dust cleared, second-seeded Mount Saint Vincent stunned top-seeded St. Joseph's to earn their first HVWAC Softball crown in five years. Behind the overpowering right arm of freshman Megan Gonzalez, Mount Saint Vincent did not allow a run in the HVWAC playoffs, and Gonzalez was named MVP. With the Mount's season on the line and a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament Championship at stake, Gonzalez - who's efforts on the mound have been a catalyst behind the Mount's success all season long - turned in performances that can only be described as legendary despite her youth, and for the first time in five years, Mount Saint Vincent is the HVWAC Tournament Champion, sweeping Saint Elizabeth and St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Saturday to claim the tourney title. 5/1/2007 - The final week of regular season play for HVWAC Softball turned into a wild affair that saw St. Joseph's overtake Mount Saint Vincent for the conference crown as a three-way tie was averted when the College of New Rochelle stunned Saint Elizabeth on Monday. St. Joseph's won seven out of 11 games for the week to finish the season in fine fashion. 4/24/2007 - The 2007 Softball season saw its first major twist as the College of Saint Elizabeth stunned previously undefeated St. Joseph's on Saturday to create a three-way tie for first place in the conference as the home stretch of the 2007 season begins. In other action, St. Joseph's had taken over first place in the conference - albeit briefly - thanks to a 2-0 win over Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday that saw a freshman pitcher turn in her best performance of the season. 4/10/2007 - St. Joseph's College and the College of Saint Elizabeth made the headlines this week in HVWAC Softball competition as both teams saw tough stretches of games yield positive results. The Lady Bears of SJC caught fire this week and extended their winning streak to five straight games after a six-game slide to open the season. Saint Elizabeth had an up and down week, but considering that their competition came from the top of the standings of the CUNY AC and Skyline Conferences, it was a great week for the Eagles. 3/27/2007 - The 2007 HVWAC Softball season is here! Both the College of Saint Elizabeth and St. Joseph's left the cold of the metropolitan to head to warmer climates and face some of the most challenging competition in the nation as Saint Elizabeth headed to Salisbury, Maryland for two games, while St. Joseph's went to Tuscon, Arizona for a week of Spring Training. Mount Saint Vincent2/18/2007 - Tournament MVP Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph by the Sea) scored 14 points and added six assists and four steals, while freshman Courtney Heesemann (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park HS) notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, including several crucial baskets down the stretch as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team capped an undefeated season in conference play by capturing the 2007 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament Championship with a 59-54 win over third-seeded College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday during a game played at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. 2/17/2007 - The Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Championship Game is set, and for the first time in three years, it will not be a Mount Saint Vincent - St. Joseph's match-up. Top-seeded Mount Saint Vincent did their part, dominating #5 College of New Rochelle, 73-40 during Saturday's opener, but #2 St. Joseph's - the defending HVWAC Champions - were upset by #3 Saint Elizabeth, 51-44 in the nightcap. 2/15/2007 - Junior Ruchelle Austin (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay HS) enjoyed one of the finest nights of her storied career with a game-high 34 points (on 12 for 20 shooting) and 12 rebounds as the fifth-seeded College of New Rochelle stunned #4 Yeshiva University, 61-55 in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Quarterfinals on Thursday night during a game played at Yeshiva. The win marks the fourth time this season that CNR defeated Yeshiva, but the Lady Macs scored a 61-40 win over CNR on Feb. 1 to gain the #4 seed for the playoffs. Top three seeds receive byes; #1 Mount Saint Vincent seeks second HVWAC Tourney crown in three years
2/13/2007 - For the fourth consecutive season, Mount Saint Vincent and St. Joseph's College are the top-two seeds for the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Basketball playoffs. Mount Saint Vincent earned the top seed after storming through their HVWAC schedule, finishing 4-0 in Conference play and winning by an average margin of 31.25 points per game. St. Joseph's finished the regular season with a 3-1 record, losing to Mount Saint Vincent during the first weeks of the season. The wild card could be #3 Saint Elizabeth, who enjoyed a fantastic 2006-07 campaign, finishing conference play 2-2, but proving to be every bit as competitive as both Mount Saint Vincent and St. Joseph's, losing close games to both teams. Mount Saint Vincent logo2/7/2007 - Freshman Karissa Koerner (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood HS) registered her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) added 19 points and a game-high seven steals as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team downed the College of New Rochelle, 59-26 on Wednesday during a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, Mount Saint Vincent captured the 2006-07 HVWAC Regular Season Championship after finishing conference play with a 4-0 record during which the Dolphins' average margin of victory was 31.25 per game. 2/6/2007 - The end of January brought with it the most stunning upset of the 2006-07 HVWAC Basketball season as Yeshiva University overcame three losses to the College of New Rochelle early in the season to defeat the Blue Angels 61-40 on Thursday. As a result Lady Mac senior Rivke Pianko is the HVWAC Player of the Week, marking the first YU player to capture Player of the Week honors this season. 12/21/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics, Cathy Ingram, has announced the resignation of Frank Fanning, the College's Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach during the last year and a half. Ingram said that Fanning has resigned due to time constraints that have developed at his full-time place of employment, and that a search for a successor will begin immediately with the hopes of having a new Head Coach in place for the start of the 2007 Men's Tennis season. 11/28/2006 - Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics Cathy Ingram has announced that Tony Elmore, the College’s Head Women’s Soccer Coach during the last three seasons, has resigned his position effective immediately. In announcing Elmore’s resignation, Ingram cited his other professional responsibilities as the reason for the decision and that a search for a successor will begin immediately. The Pratt Institute11/10/2006 - The Pratt Institute is the 2006 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Cross Country Champion after a thrilling win over Mount Saint Vincent on Friday at Van Cortlandt Park. The Cannoneers earned the top two finishes and finished with 24 team points, 13 points ahead of Mount Saint Vincent. Medgar Evers finished third with 65 points, while St. Joseph's College finished in fourth place with 120 points. CSI11/5/2006 - By the time the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team realized what was going wrong during Sunday's Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship Game against the College of Staten Island, it was too late and the game was all but over ... even though there were still 84 minutes left to play. 10/28/2006 - Inclement weather in the New York City metropolitan area has forced the postponement of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Cross Country Championships, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, New York. 10/27/2006 - With the completion of regular season play, the matchups for the 2006 Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) soccer playoffs have been set. Top seeded College of Staten Island and second-seeded Mount Saint Vincent will have byes during the first round, but the third through six seeds will compete on Sunday, Oct. 29. Tracy Frank9/29/2006 - Only 21 games into her collegiate soccer career, Mount Saint Vincent sophomore Tracy Frank (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue HS) has already created a legacy for herself of scoring big goals at key moments for the Dolphins. During the regular season of her freshman year, Frank found the back of the net only twice, but during an incredible run at the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) playoffs, Frank scored three times, including the game-winner of the HVWAC finals, a 1-0 Dolphin win over the College of Staten Island. This new website has been an ongoing project during the summer of 2006 designed to bring news and information regarding our Conference to member institutions, athletes, and fans in a timely fashion that is easy to read and navigate. The site is going to be a work in progress during the 2006-07 academic year but will soon include game and individual photos, statistics, and up-to-the-minute results for each sport. It will also provide information on HVWAC meetings and events, and contact information for our sport chairs and conference governing body. The former Jessica Nowak is a 2001 graduate of NYU where she was a four-year letter winner for their powerhouse Women’s Basketball team.
