Women’s Volleyball releases 2006 schedule
Dolphins set to defend HVWAC Regular Season Championship and strive even higher
(Riverdale, NY) – Coming off of a 14-19 overall record during the 2005 season that included their sixth Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship during the last seven years, the Mount Saint Vincent Women’s Volleyball team will once again face the challenge of a difficult schedule that includes some of the best competition in the region. The Mount’s upcoming slate will feature 11 home matches beginning with an encounter against the newest member of the HWAC, Cooper Union on Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.

The Dolphins will also host 2005 Skyline Conference semifinalists USMMA-Kings Point and St. Joseph’s (LI) on Sept. 25 and Oct. 8, respectively, as well as defending HVWAC Tournament Champion St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on Sept. 19. The Mount’s 2006 regular season home finale will take place on Oct. 24 at 7:00 p.m. when the Mount hosts HVWAC foe Marymount College.

The Mount’s Skyline Conference home slate also includes dates with Centenary College on Sept. 27 and Farmingdale State on Oct. 2.

Another date of note during the 2006 season will be Saturday, Sept. 23 when the Mount hosts Medgar Evers and the Pratt Institute in an HVWAC doubleheader. Prior to the varsity matches, there will be a game between Women's Volleyball Alumnae.  All former women's volleyball players are welcome to join us for the game and a reception to follow.  (For more info on the Alumnae game, please contact the Alumnae Relations Office.) With six HVWAC Championships during the last seven years, the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball program has a great history to boast, and Sept. 23 will be a celebration of that winning tradition.

Mount Saint Vincent’s road slate will be highlighted by a trip to defending Skyline Conference Champion Stevens Institute of Technology on Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. and a spot in the Cougar Invitational at Kean University in Union, New Jersey on Oct. 20 and 21. Oct. 7 will also be a date of note for the 2006 schedule as the Mount will travel to 2005 Skyline Conference Semifinalist Old Westbury at 10:00 a.m. and will also face non-conference foe Polytechnic at Old Westbury that day.  Polytechnic will join the Skyline Conference in the Fall of 2007.

Second year Head Coach Ennio Escoto said that while the 2006 schedule will be more of a challenge than what he faced during his rookie campaign in 2005, he feels that his team that will include nine returnees and as many as eight newcomers will be ready to make 2006 a successful run.

“It’s never easy to take over a program and establish a new system and set of expectations like we did a year ago, but I was thrilled with the way the team responded last season, and I think we laid the groundwork for an outstanding team this year,” said Escoto. “This is a team that took tremendous pride in winning the HVWAC Championship last season, and we have a few of the key elements of that team back. Combined with a terrific recruiting class, I think we’ll be in the hunt for the HVWAC Championship once again and show a lot of improvement in the Skyline Conference.”
