Dolphins combine for only one hit; Cuozzo scores lone Dolphin run in sixth inning
5/2/2006 - (Kings Point, NY) – Freshman Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) scored his 18th run of the 2006 season to take over second place on the team in that category, and sophomore Ryan Strub  (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot HS) struck out five batters over 6.2 innings of work, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team fell to seventh place in the Skyline Conference with a 5-1 loss to USMMA-Kings Point on Tuesday. With the loss, the Dolphins are now 15-18 overall and 7-10 in Skyline play.

Kings Point jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, and cruised from that point as pitcher Matt Krohn held the Mount to one hit over nine innings while striking out 11 and walking only three. The lone Mount Saint Vincent run came in the sixth inning after Cuozzo reached on an error, two consecutive ground outs moved him to third base, and a two-out Eddie Park (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) single not only broke up the no-hitter, but scored Cuozzo to make it 2-1. However, a three-run Mariner rally in the bottom of the seventh inning put the game out of reach.

Strub allowed all five runs during 6.2 innings of work, only four of which were earned, and two relief pitchers held the Mariners scoreless for the final inning and a third.

Mount Saint Vincent is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, May 3 at 4:00 p.m. when they travel to Polytechnic.
