Munroe shines as Baseball wins second straight game, 15-2 over Skyline rival Maritime College
Redshirt freshman tosses gem during first career start; Dolphins’ bats explode for 15 hits
4/30/2006 - (Purchase, NY) – It’s safe to say that Mount Saint Vincent’s Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS) was well-rested heading into his start on Sunday against Maritime College. After all, the last time Munroe had thrown a pitch was the Spring of 2004 when he was a senior at Foran High School in Milford, CT. Since then, Munroe missed the 2005 season thanks to injury, and has patrolled the Dolphin outfield admirably during the 2006 season, but it wasn’t until Sunday that he was asked to return to the mound. Eight brilliant innings later, Munroe may have made a case to remain in the Mount rotation, and the Dolphins exploded for an incredible 15 runs en route to a 15-2 win over Maritime College during a game played at Purchase College. With their second straight win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 14-17, including a 6-9 record in Skyline Conference play.

Munroe was in command from the start, walking the opening batter of the game, but then holding Maritime to five hits and a walk, while striking out six. He did not allow a runner to pass second base during eight innings of work. Munroe was also able to settle in thanks to a 5-0 lead staked to him by the Dolphin bats in the first inning. A second inning run gave the Mount a 6-0 lead, and the Dolphins cruised from there.

Six different Dolphins had at least two hits, including sophomore Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS), who went 2 for 4 with four RBI’s and two runs scored, and Nick Triolo (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS), who was also 2 for 4 and drove in two runs. Mount Saint Vincent pounded out 15 hits, and scored seven times during the bottom of the seventh inning to break things open. Munroe even had a hand at protecting his own lead as his seventh inning single drove in two runs.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, May 2 when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point for a 4:30 p.m. game.
