Baseball improves to 12-16 with 7-6 Skyline win over USMMA-Kings Point
Park’s eighth inning RBI walk wins it for Dolphins; Dolphins top three batters: 7 for 12, 6 RBI’s, 6 runs
4/28/2006 - (Kings Point, NY) – Sophomore Eddie Park (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI in the top of the eighth inning, and the top three batters in the Dolphin line-up combined to go 7 for 12 with six RBI’s and six runs scored as the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team downed Skyline Conference foe USMMA-Kings Point, 7-6. With the win, the Mount improves to 12-16 for the 2006 season and 5-7 in Skyline Conference play.

Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and a 5-0 lead after three innings thanks to some sloppy USMMA defense that led to two early unearned runs for the Mount. The biggest blow was a third inning two-run home run by sophomore Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) that extended the Dolphin lead to five. Schor finished the game going 2 for 5 with three RBI’s and two runs scored.

The Mount would need every single one of their early runs as Kings Point rallied for five runs to tie the score during the bottom of the sixth inning, only one of which was earned. The Mariner rally set the stage for a wild final three innings. The top of the seventh saw the Mount take a 6-5 lead thanks to an RBI double by sophomore Nick Canzano (Farmington, NY/Victor Central HS) that scored Park, who had reached on an error. Canzano finished the game 3 for 5 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.

Kings Point tied the score thanks to an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Dolphins took the lead during the top of the eighth inning. The winning run was manufactured by a single, and then three straight walks, including Park’s which scored Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) to give the Mount the 7-6 lead. USMMA put runners in scoring position during the home halves of the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to tie the score thanks to an impressive relief stint by freshman Corey Kirsch (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS), who earned the win, and an outstanding defensive play in the bottom of the ninth by right fielder Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS), who’s throw to third base stopped a Mariner rally and ended the game.

Mount Saint Vincent has little time to rest as they return home Saturday for a noon doubleheader with St. Joseph’s (LI) and then host Maritime College for a single game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. All three games will be played at Purchase College.
