Softball remains hot, sweeps CNR to improve to 13-22
Dolphins combine to outscore Blue Angels 28-8, now 11-4 during last 15 games
4/27/2006 - (New Rochelle, NY) – The weather may be warm outside, but nothing is as hot as the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team. The Dolphins, who at one point this season had a 2-18 record in early April, have come together and turned the 2006 campaign around, winning 11 of their last 15 games after Thursday’s doubleheader sweep of the College of New Rochelle in which the Mount earned 15-4 and 13-4 wins. With their latest triumphs, Mount Saint Vincent is now 13-22 overall, and 3-2 in Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference play, a record that has earned the Dolphins an HVWAC playoff home game next Thursday.

The opener was actually a close affair during the early going as CNR opened up a 2-0 lead after two innings, and the game was tied at three after four. However, things turned around in the top of the fifth inning when the Mount exploded for six runs, a feat they would repeat two innings later to blow the game wide open. Freshman Jessica Riddle (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) was the story once again as she not only pitched a complete game, allowing four runs while striking out nine, but she also went 3 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI’s and two runs scored. Senior Jacqui Dauphinais (S. Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth Regional HS) also had a big game with a 2 for 5 effort with 2 RBI’s and two runs scored, and freshman Amanda Prendergast (Fairlawn, NJ/Paramus Catholic) added two hits, two RBI’s and a run scored.

Game two was a different story as Mount Saint Vincent wasted no time jumping out to a lead as the Dolphins scored four times in the first inning and never looked back. Dauphinais, Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland HS), and Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) had monster days, combining for seven hits, 11 RBI’s and eight runs scored. Troncoso went 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and four runs scored, including the first home run of her career. Dauphinais and Piccoli each had two hits and four RBI’s. Mount Saint Vincent also received an outstanding pitching performance from senior Krista Roberts (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS), who improved to 6-7 for the 2006 season after a complete game performance in which she allowed only one earned run while striking out four.

Mount Saint Vincent concludes the 2006 regular season with a trip to Old Westbury on Saturday, April 29 at noon. The Dolphins will be the  #3 seed for next week’s HVWAC playoffs.
