Mount Saint Vincent opened the game scoring twice in the first inning thanks to an Al Schor (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon HS) single that drove home Eddie Park (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) and Nick Canzano (Farmington, NY/Victor Central HS). Schor ended the day with two hits, as did Canzano, who also scored twice, and Park went 3 for 5 with a run scored. The lead would hold through two innings as sophomore pitcher Tony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) started the game on fire, as he did not allow a hit through two innings and struck out five.
However, John Jay exploded for three runs in the third inning and five more in the seventh to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The Mount battled back with two unearned runs in the eighth inning, but so did John Jay, and the despite scoring a run in the top of the ninth inning, Mount Saint Vincent fell to 1-1 against CUNY competition this season.
Eight different Dolphins registered hits on Wednesday, seven of which recorded at least two hits. However, Palandro, Marco Giasullo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains HS), and Nathan Todd (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke HS) combined to allow eight earned runs and 10 runs overall.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, April 28 when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point for a 4:30 contest.
