Men’s Tennis ends 2006 home slate with 7-0 loss to Skyline Conference leading Ducks
Cooke and MacDonald have tremendous outings versus best team in the Skyline
4/24/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – In the big picture, Monday’s Men’s Tennis 2006 home finale against Stevens was in many ways not the end of something, but instead the continuation of the beginning of a program that has competed valiantly during its rebirth in 2006. After a one-year hiatus, the Mount has proven to be a tough foe in conference competition this season despite having one of the youngest teams in the Skyline Conference. Monday’s match continued the trend as the Dolphins were competitive with the top team in the Skyline, but were unable to register a win.

Senior Chris MacDonald (Farmingdale, NY/Nassau CC) and sophomore Garrett Cooke (Wickford, RI/Bishop Hendricken) had the hot hands on Monday with Cooke giving the top singles player from Stevens everything he could handle during a 10-1 loss, while Cooke battled strongly during a 10-2 loss. Freshman Joe Nickerson (Summit, NJ/Hudson Catholic) was also outstanding at sixth singles, losing 10-1.

After the Mount was swept at singles play, doubles provided no better fortune as MacDonald and Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME/Mount Blue HS) lost 8-1 and the next two Mount doubles teams were swept. However, the matches were closer than the scores indicated, and the Dolphins proved to be a much improved team from the one that first took to the court for the first time only four weeks ago.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action one final time in team competition on Wednesday, April 26 when they travel to Maritime State for a 4:00 p.m. match.
