Softball team sweeps HVWAC Weekly honors; Riddle named Player of the Week, Troncoso Rookie of the Week
Freshman duo combine to lead Mount Saint Vincent to doubleheader sweep of Marymount
4/11/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – A commanding performance during a doubleheader sweep of Marymount College on Friday has led to two Mount Saint Vincent Softball players earning Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) weekly honors, marking the first time this season that the Mount won both awards in a single week. Freshman pitcher Jessica Riddle (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) earned the Conference’s Player of the Week award for the second time this season, while fellow freshman Jillian Troncoso (West Haverstraw, NY/West Haverstraw HS) was named HVWAC Rookie of the Week a day after earning the same honor from the Skyline Conference.

Riddle made history on Friday when she pitched a no-hitter during a 14-0 opening game win over Marymount. During the effort, she struck out six Marymount batters, walked only four, and allowed only two runners to reach second base. She also helped her own cause at the plate as she had two hits and drove in four runs during the game. After Monday’s 12-1 win over Maritime College, Riddle has won her last two starts and has a 0.50 ERA during that stretch. For the 2006 season, Riddle has a 3-9 overall record and an 8.42 ERA. She also leads the Mount with 37 strikeouts. Riddle is also batting .306 at the plate with 12 RBI’s and a team-leading 14 walks.

Troncoso has been nothing short of a revelation in recent weeks as she is the current Mount Saint Vincent leader in batting (.500), RBI’s (17), Slugging Percentage (.639), and On Base Percentage (.550). She spent last week on a tear, batting .727 during a four-game stretch in which the Mount finished 2-2. Troncoso was at her best during a doubleheader with Farmingdale State in which she went 4 for 7 with five runs scored and four RBI’s. For the week, Troncoso went 8 for 11 with nine runs scored and nine RBI’s.

Mount Saint Vincent enters Tuesday’s game against Lehman riding a four-game winning streak that has upped the Mount’s 2006 record to 6-18. The Dolphins are 1-1 in HVWAC play.
