Riddle makes history as Softball sweeps Marymount College
Freshman pitcher tosses first career no-hitter, drives in four runs
4/7/2006 - (Tarrytown, NY) – Freshman pitcher Jessica Riddle (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) threw the first no-hitter of her career, allowing only four walks and two baserunners to pass second base, and struck out a career-high six Marymount batters while driving in four runs herself as the Mount Saint Vincent Softball team swept a doubleheader for the first time this season, 14-0 and 9-4 during games played at Marymount College. With the wins, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 4-18 overall and is now 1-1 in Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play.

Riddle was simply incredible during the opener. After walking the Marymount leadoff batter, she struck out three of the next four Saint hitters, and did not allow a second base-runner until a fourth inning walk. And when she wasn’t storming through the Marymount line-up at the mound, she was exploding at the plate as a second inning double and fourth inning triple each drove in two runs. The Mount scored three runs in the first inning, four times in the second inning, plated a run in the third inning, and then capped the victory with a six-run rally in the fourth inning. Aside from Riddle’s performance, juniors Gina Angolillo (Harrison, NY/Harrison HS) and Jessica Piccoli (Yonkers, NY/Saunders HS) and freshman Jillian Troncoso (W. Haverstraw, NY/W. Haverstraw HS) each had three hits and combined to score eight runs and drive in five.

The second game was all Mount Saint Vincent as well as the Dolphins rallied for four runs in the fourth inning and gradually extended the lead each inning thereafter. Junior Nabela Tahir (Flushing, NY/Cardozo HS) went 4 for 4 with three RBI’s, while Piccoli collected three more hits, two RBI’s and scored twice. Senior pitcher Krista Roberts (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington HS) went the distance on the mound and was outstanding, striking out four.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, April 10 when they travel to Maritime College at 3:30 p.m. for a Skyline Conference doubleheader.
