Utschig named Skyline Conference Player of the Week for Baseball
Junior hits .550, including .571 in Conference play; scores seven runs, steals eight bases; Dolphins have 2-3 week
4/3/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent junior Joe Utschig (Pleasantville, NY/Westlake HS) became the first Dolphin Baseball player to ever earn Skyline Conference Player of the Week this week after an incredible week of play during which Mount Saint Vincent had a 2-3 record. The right fielder not only had the highest single-week batting average of his career during the five-game stretch (.550, .571 against Skyline Conference competition), but he also stole eight bases and scored seven runs as the Dolphins swept a doubleheader from Mount Saint Mary, lost a tight game to NJCU, and was swept by Stevens but played terrific baseball against the nationally ranked Ducks.

Utschig shined against Mount Saint Mary, going 4 for 7, while stealing six bases, and scoring two runs. The next day against Stevens, he went 4 for 7 once again and scored three times. For the 2006 season, Utschig leads Mount Saint Vincent with a .400 batting average, 27 runs scored, a .517 on base percentage, and 28 stolen bases. Utschig’s 28 stolen bases also leads the Skyline Conference.

Mount Saint Vincent is currently 10-12 overall and 2-6 in Skyline Conference play. This week will be spent on the road as the Dolphins travel to Western Connecticut on Thursday at 4:00 and then return to Skyline Conference play this weekend when they travel to Old Westbury on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and then go to Farmingdale for a Sunday twin-bill at noon.
