Baseball falls to Division II Mercy, 12-3, now 8-11
Freshman trio combine for seven hits; Dolphins leave nine runners on base
3/30/2006 - (Dobbs Ferry, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent's Zach Munroe (Milford, CT/Foran HS), Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) and Brendan Russo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) combined for seven of the Mount's 12 hits, with Munroe hitting two doubles, but the Mount Saint Vincent Baseball team lost its sixth straight game, 12-3 to Mercy College on Thursday. With the loss, the Dolphins are now 8-11 for the 2006 season.

The game got off to a promising start for the Mount as the Dolphins scored twice during the top of the first inning thanks to RBI singles by Munroe and Cuozzo. The lead would last until the third inning when Mercy scored three times to take a one-run lead, but the Mount tied the score in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by sophomore Logan Mauzy (Homer, NY/Homer Central HS). From that point, the game was all Mercy as the Flyers scored five times in the fourth inning to blow the game wide open, and ultimately finished the game having scored nine unanswered runs. Mercy was helped by six Mount Saint Vincent errors and six walks by the Mount pitching staff.

Starting pitcher Nathan Todd (Holyoke, MA/Holyoke HS) was tagged for eight earned runs over 3.1 innings, and relievers Marco Giasullo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains HS) and Tony Palandro (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) allowed a combined four runs, but only two were earned.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 1 when they travel to Mount Saint Mary for a noon Skyline Conference doubleheader.
