Egan makes career-high 21 saves, but Men’s Lacrosse drops fifth straight game, 13-9 to Valiants
Doyle nets five points; Winter, Reynolds, Hernandez score two goals apiece; Dolphins host Alvernia on April 1
3/22/2006 - (Purchase, NY) – Sophomore Tom Egan (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet HS) was spectacular in net once again, making a career-high 21 saves, and senior James Doyle (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) netted a season high five points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Lacrosse team lost their fifth straight game, 13-9 to Manhattanville College on Wednesday night during a game played at Manhattanville. The Mount trailed 7-3 at halftime, but then played Manhattanville even during the final 30 minutes. The Dolphins made a huge run during the second half to go after their first win of the season, but fell just short.

Egan was simply sensational. After a shaky start in which the Valiants scored twice within the first 1:13 of play, the sophomore settled in to hold Manhattanville in check for the rest of the game. However, it took the Mount Saint Vincent offense nearly the entire first quarter to get on track as a Bryan Winter (Islip, NY/Islip HS) tally with 53 seconds remaining made it a 3-1 Valiant lead to end the opening quarter. After a Mike Hernandez (Ridgefield, NJ/Bergen Catholic) closed the gap to 5-3 with 6:23 left in the first half, Manhattanville went on a 5-0 run to make it a 10-3 game with 10:13 remaining in the third quarter. From there, Mount Saint Vincent scored six of the next seven goals to make it 11-9 with 12:37 left in the game, but Manhattanville scored the game’s final two goals to secure their first win of the 2006 season.

Doyle finished the game with three goals and two assists, and Hernandez, Winter, and Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY/Middle Country HS) each scored twice. The game was a wild affair with numerous penalties as Mount Saint Vincent finished the game 3 for 9 with an extra man opportunity, while Manhattanville was 1 for 11 with an extra man. Ultimately, the Valiants secured the game thanks to a major possession advantage as Manhattanville won 20 out of 25 face-offs, and out-scooped the Mount 39-19.

Mount Saint Vincent will now have 10 days to prepare for their next game as they will host Alvernia College on Saturday, April 1 at noon. The game will be played at CCNY.
