Cuozzo named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for Baseball
Freshman hit .471 during Spring Break trip to Florida, currently ranked in batting average, hits; Garcia named to Honor Roll for Women’s Lacrosse
3/20/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Mount Saint Vincent freshman baseball player Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, NY/Clarke HS) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week this week after an incredible 10-game stretch in Fort Pierce, Florida in which the Dolphins finished 5-5. The infielder hit an incredible .471 during the week, and is currently ranked among the Skyline Conference leaders in both batting average and hits.

Cuozzo’s highlights included a 4 for 7 effort with two runs scored and two RBI’s as the Mount swept a doubleheader from Delaware Valley on March 11. Two days later, the rookie went 5 for 6 with four RBI’s during a sweep of Hilbert College. For the season, Cuozzo is hitting a team-leading .472 with 11 RBI’s, and a team-leading three doubles. He also has a stellar .955 fielding percentage while playing three different infield positions.

Also honored by the Skyline Conference this week was sophomore Women’s Lacrosse midfielder Marie Garcia (Medford, MA/Medford HS), who was named to the Skyline Honor Roll for a spectacular week in which she helped lead the Dolphins to a 1-1 record. Garcia scored a total of four goals and added an assist during the two games, and her points included a spectacular goal with 1:22 remaining in the game on Thursday as Mount Saint Vincent won a 9-8 thriller over Puget Sound for their first win of 2006.

Both teams will enjoy busy weeks as the Baseball team travels to CCNY on Wednesday before a huge weekend as the travel to Centenary on Saturday for a doubleheader and then travel to Manhattanville on Sunday for a twin-bill. The Women’s Lacrosse team has a Tuesday encounter with FDU-Florham before embarking on a weekend road trip to Keuka College on Saturday and Medaille College on Sunday.
