Men’s Volleyball loses 3-0 to #11 Golden Flyers
Williams: 11 digs, 3 solo blocks; Reinhardt: 18 assists: Dolphins now 5-10
2/24/2006 - Riverdale, NY) – Junior Dan Williams (Brick Township, NJ/St. Rose) had team highs in both digs (11) and solo blocks (3), and fellow junior Matthew Reinhardt (Staten Island, NY/McKee-SI Tech) had 18 assists, but the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Volleyball team lost for the second straight match and for the eighth time during their last nine matches, 3-0 to Nazareth College, the nation’s 11th ranked team, during a match played at Mount Saint Vincent on Friday night. The loss drops the Dolphins to 5-10 overall as they are in the midst of a brutal stretch in which four straight matches will be against nationally ranked teams.

The Golden Flyers swept the match, 15-30, 14-30, and 20-30 as they improve to 12-5 for the 2006 season after a commanding performance in which they amassed 49 kills against only 10 errors, while Mount Saint Vincent had 22 kills against 17 errors. Nazareth also enjoyed a 10-3.5 blocking advantage.

Williams had an outstanding defensive night, and Reinhardt was solid as usual, particularly during the final game in which the Mount gave Nazareth a run for their money, leading for most of the game. Senior Russell Butts (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach HS) and freshman TJ Pufahl (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage HS) each had the hot hands on offense for the Mount, registering a team-high six kills apiece.

Mount Saint Vincent continues its challenging stretch on Tuesday, Feb. 28 when they host Ramapo College, the nation’s 14th ranked team. Ramapo defeated Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0 on Feb. 7. Tuesday’s match will begin at 8:00 p.m.
