Senior Laura Bucci notched her second consecutive double-double with 15 points and 10 assists as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team advanced to the HVWAC Championship Game with an 89-54 win over St. Elizabeth on Saturday night. The Mount will face St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for the HVWAC Championship on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y.
utes of play and advanced to the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Championship Game with an 89-54 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth in the HVWAC Semifinals on Saturday night at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. With the win, second-seeded Mount Saint Vincent improves to 8-15 for the 2005-06 season and will face top-seeded St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) for the HVWAC Championship on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Pratt.

St. Elizabeth hung tough during the first half of play as Mount Saint Vincent used a late run to take a 37-25 lead at the half. The second half, however, was all Mount Saint Vincent as the Dolphins outscored the Eagles, 52-29 during that stretch to coast to victory. DiNizo added four steals to her 18 points, while Bucci scored 15 points and added 10 assists, while DeRosa chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. Six Dolphins scored in double figures as sophomore Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) scored 15 points and Drew Gomes (Thomaston, CT/Thomaston HS) added 13 points.

Mount Saint Vincent enters Sunday’s game looking for a repeat of the 2004-05 season when they lost to St. Joseph’s during the regular season, but scored a 47-45 victory in the HVWAC Championship Game. This season, St. Joseph’s defeated the Mount 68-64 during the regular season on Dec. 6.
