Women’s Swimming meet against Mount Saint Mary/Old Westbury postponed due to weather
Dolphins currently 4-6 after 0-3 week
2/11/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – Sunday’s Women’s Swimming tri-meet between Mount Saint Vincent, Old Westbury, and Mount Saint Mary, scheduled to take place at Mount Saint Mary at 1:00 p.m., has been postponed due to poor weather conditions. No date for a reschedule of the meet has been announced.

The postponement ends a difficult week for the Mount as the Dolphins lost three times during the week, falling to Purchase College and St. Joseph’s (LI) on Tuesday, 72-44 and 61-44 respectively during a tri-meet, and losing a thrilling 51-43 meet to John Jay on Thursday.

During the tri-meet, senior Elizabeth Clark (Silver Spring, MD/St. John’s Prep) captured first place finishes in the 50-yard backstroke, 100-yard backstroke, and 50-yard fly, and Marie Garcia (Medford, MA/Medford HS) won the 100-yard and 200-yard IM against Purchase College, but the Mount dropped a tough meet to a Purchase team who the Mount defeated 166-67 on Nov. 12. Clark’s best performance was a 34.91 finish on the 50-yard backstroke, while Garcia excelled during a 122.04 effort in the 200-yard IM.

The results against St. Joseph’s were more encouraging as Robin Forcelli (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield HS) and Megan Rohan (New Rochelle, NY/Ursinus) enjoyed incredible efforts in the 50-yard breaststroke and 50-yard freestyle. Clark gained the Mount’s only two wins against St. Joseph’s, in the 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard fly.

Two nights later, the Mount enjoyed its most exciting meet of the season, falling just short against John Jay. The Dolphins led trailed only 22-20 after six events, but John Jay pulled away during the final six events. The Mount captured both relay events as the team of Clark, Christine Tracey (Tappan, NY), Jillian Stark (Brooklyn, NY), and Elise Henrich (Brooklyn, NY) led the Dolphins to victory in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. Also turning in a tremendous effort for Mount Saint Vincent was freshman Megan Clark (Silver Spring, MD/St. John’s Prep), who took first place in the 200-yard freestyle event and second place in the 500-yard freestyle event.

The 2005-06 season has represented one of the most successful campaigns in Mount Saint Vincent history as the Mount was the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) runner-up, and competed at the Skyline Conference championships for the first time, finishing fifth. The Mount also competed during the Spring semester for the first time, ever.
