Bucci’s incredible week of play leads to three major awards for Women’s Basketball
Senior named to Skyline Conference/PrestoSports MBWA Honor Rolls; HVWAC Player of the Week
2/7/2006 - (Riverdale, NY) – During an outstanding four-year career, Mount Saint Vincent senior Laura Bucci (Irvington, NY/Our Lady of Victory) has emerged as one of the finest point guards in the history of the Mount’s Women’s Basketball program, joining an elite group of fine point guards to play for the Dolphins. Last year, she helped lead Mount Saint Vincent to the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament Championship, and earned All-Conference honors from both the HVWAC and Skyline Conference as well after leading the Skyline in assists.
Mount Saint Vincent senior Laura Bucci capped an outstanding week of play last week with three major honors. After averaging 20.5 points and five assists per game, Bucci was named HVWAC Player of the Week, and to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll and PrestoSports/MBWA Honor Roll as well.

While the 2005-06 season brought with it high expectations, Bucci got off to a slow start, and during a 60-44 loss to St. Joseph’s (LI) on Jan. 4, she was held scoreless for the first time in three years. While that evening marked the low point for Bucci’s season, it also led to a rebirth of sorts. Since that night, Bucci has averaged a team-best 10.9 points per game to go along with 40 assists during 14 games for the Mount. Last week, the senior simply sizzled, averaging 20.5 points and five assists per game as the Dolphins downed Yeshiva 99-72 and lost 70-57 to Stevens. For her efforts, Bucci earned three major awards, all of which marked her first honors of the 2005-06 season.

Bucci was named the HVWAC Player of the Week, and was named to the Honor Roll of both the Skyline Conference and PrestoSports Metropolitan Basketball Writers’ Association (MBWA). Bucci is now the second Women’s Basketball player in Mount Saint Vincent history to earn MBWA Honor Roll honors after fellow senior Lauren DeRosa (Hawthorne, NY/Westlake HS) earned the award a year ago.

Bucci is now averaging 8.8 points per game – after averaging 4.9 points per game through the loss to St. Joseph’s (LI) – and leads the Mount with 63 assists and 29 three-point field goals. She has also shot a team-best .730 from the free throw line.

Bucci and Mount Saint Vincent are currently 6-14 overall, 2-10 in Skyline Conference play, and 3-1 in the HVWAC. On Thursday, Feb. 9 she will compete at Mount Saint Vincent for the final time when the Dolphins host Muhlenberg at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the game, Bucci and three other seniors will be honored during a Senior Night ceremony.
