Senior Laura Bucci scored a team and season-high 21 points, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team lost 70-57 to Stevens on Saturday. The Dolphins led 29-28 at halftime, but were outscored 42-28 during the second half of play. Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when they host USMMA-Kings Point at 7:00 p.m.

The game had all of the makings of a thriller during the early going as Mount Saint Vincent held a one-point lead over Stevens at halftime, marking the second time this season they have done so against the Ducks. In fact, Saturday’s game marked the 14th time in 19 games this season that the Mount has either led, been tied, or trailed by single digits during a game, but like the last time these two teams met on Dec. 9, Stevens (13-6, 7-2 Skyline Conference) rallied for the win. The Ducks were simply dominant during the second half, outscoring the Mount 42-28 thanks in part to a 29-13 rebounding advantage during the final 20 minutes. Stevens began the second half with a 13-0 run, and never looked back as Dora Enright (Longmont, CO/Longmont HS) had a double-double with a team-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, and both Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) and Kelsea Wilks (El Sobrante, CA/Salesian) scored 11 points apiece. Besides the rebounding edge, Stevens outworked the Dolphins for 22 second-chance points compared to Mount Saint Vincent’s 3, while the Ducks committed only 16 turnovers compared to Mount Saint Vincent’s 19.

Bucci broke 20 points for the second straight game with a fabulous effort in which she shot 8 for 13 from the floor, including 4 for 7 from three-point range. DiNizo had a solid all-around game, and her six rebounds were a season high. Also for the Mount, senior Meagan Fitzpatrick (Yonkers, NY/Our Lady of Victory) scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.

Mount Saint Vincent is still very much in the hunt for a Skyline Conference playoff berth, and a huge Tuesday night home game against USMMA-Kings Point could go a long way in determining their post-season fate. Tip-off for Tuesday’s game is 7:00 p.m.
