Senior Meagan Fitzpatrick scored nine points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team lost 86-49 to Mount Saint Mary on Saturday. The Dolphins host Manhattanville on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. |
The game began with a flurry of Dolphin baskets as the Mount took an 8-2 lead three minutes into play thanks in part to consecutive three-point baskets by Laura Bucci (Irvington, NY/Our Lady of Victory) and Andrea DiNizo (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Masters). However, the Blue Knights battled back and enjoyed a 37-27 halftime lead. The second half saw Mount Saint Vincent start with a run to make it a 41-35 game, but the Blue Knights went on a 32-2 run over a 12-minute span to blow the game open. For Mount Saint Mary (14-2, 6-0 Skyline Conference) the win was historic as it was their 61st consecutive Skyline Conference victory, marking an NCAA record for consecutive wins in Conference play. The Blue Knights have never lost a game to a Skyline Conference team, winning the last seven Conference Championships.
DiNIzo, Bucci, Fitzpatrick, and Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook HS) each scored nine points, and the Dolphins enjoyed a fantastic day at the free throw line, converting 26 of their 38 foul shooting opportunities. However, Mount Saint Vincent had a tough shooting day from the floor, converting only 27% of their field goal attempts, while Mount Saint Mary shot 52% from the floor, including 59% during the second half of play.
Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they host Manhattanville College at 7:00 p.m. The two teams met on Jan. 12 at Manhattanville, with the Valiants winning the game, 77-68 in overtime.
