The faculty of the Department of Biology comprises members representing a diversity of biological disciplines. The department's teaching/research areas of expertise include cell and molecular biology, aquatic biology, neurobiology, animal behavior, tissue culture, microbiology, entomology, developmental biology, genomics, and forensic science.
Some members of the faculty also have appointments to other institutions, such as the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York Medical College, and the New York Zoological Society/Wildlife Conservation Society. Several faculty members are actively involved in developing multimedia resources, while others pursue the advancement of high school science programs through College-Board endorsed Advanced Placement workshops.
The diversity of faculty expertise allows the department to offer a wide array of elective courses, conduct specialized research, and obtain sponsored research grants in their particular areas of expertise.
