Senior James Mooney scored 31 points and added six assists as the Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team opened the 2005-06 season with a 108-42 win over the Pratt Institute on Saturday.
Saint Vincent Men’s Basketball team opened the 2005-06 season with a convincing 108-42 win over the Pratt Institute in a game played at Mount Saint Vincent. The victory was the first for Head Coach Michael Murphy not only as Mount Saint Vincent’s Head Coach, but also his first career Head Coaching win at the College level.

Mount Saint Vincent left little doubt about this game, opening up a 59-27 halftime lead. Mooney was simply unstoppable early, connecting for nine points during the first 1:20 of play. The senior scored 22 points in the first half, and ended the game 12 for 23 from the floor. The Dolphins as a whole shot 53% from the floor, including 48% (14 for 29) from three-point range. Five Dolphins finished the game with double-digit scoring totals.

Petrucelli, who played sparingly as a freshman a year ago, made the most of his first start today, scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds.

Also for the Mount, sophomore Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY/St. Raymond’s) scored a career-high 20 points and added eight rebounds and five assists, and sophomore Ryan Brunelle (Carmel, NY/Carmel HS) added 15 points and six assists. Overall, Mount Saint Vincent outrebounded Pratt, 62-29 and forced 21 turnovers but only committed 12.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 when they travel to CUNY power, York for a 8:00 p.m. game. After the trip to York, the Dolphins play six of their final eight games in 2005 at home.
