Men’s Soccer earns four HVMAC All-Conference selections
Dolphins finished 2005 season 8-8-1, HVMAC Regular Season Champions
11/9/2005 - (Riverdale, NY) – For the second consecutive season, the Mount Saint Vincent Men’s Soccer team has earned four selections to the All-Conference team of the Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference (HVMAC). Two selections are a repeat from a year ago, while two Dolphins were selected to the team for the first time. Mount Saint Vincent captured the HVMAC Regular Season Championship after finishing the regular season 3-0 in Conference.

Leading the way is sophomore goalie Nicholas Sens-Castet (Brooklyn, NY/St. John’s Prep). Sens-Castet had a tremendous year between the pipes as he had an incredible 1.47 goals against average, a .841 save percentage, and three shut-outs, earning All-Conference honors for the first time. At one point, Sens-Castet played more than 300 minutes over a six-week span without allowing a goal. Sens-Castet was twice named HVMAC Player of the Week, and was also named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll on two occasions.

Junior Chris Herrera (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) was also named to the All-Conference team after leading the Mount with nine goals and 19 points. After a start that was mired by injuries, Herrera caught fire late in the season, and during a five-game winning streak he scored six of his nine goals, including a five-goal outburst during consecutive wins over Cooper Union and Webb. For that stretch, Herrera earned Player of the Week honors from both the Skyline Conference and HVMAC.

Sophomore Chris MacDonald (Farmingdale, NY/Nassau CC) earned All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season as he finished second on the Mount with four goals and 12 points, including a team-leading four assists. MacDonald earned HVMAC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 26 after scoring twice during a 3-2 win over Hunter College on Sept. 24. MacDonald also enjoyed a three-point effort during a 4-0 win over Webb on Oct. 30.

Finally, junior Zach Deneen (North Haven, CT/North Haven HS) joined MacDonald on the All-Conference team for the second consecutive season after a solid campaign as the Mount Saint Vincent sweeper. While there are few statistics to be gained by defenders, Deneen remained the heart and soul of the Dolphin defense, and his stellar play protecting the Mount goal allowed the Dolphins to overcome a sluggish start to finish at .500 or better for the second straight season.

Mount Saint Vincent finished the 2005 season with an 8-8-1 overall record, including a 3-1 record in the HVMAC and a 2-6-1 record in the Skyline Conference.
